The Arya Veer Dal simply means, “a group of brave, noble or disciplined youths.” According Dr. Satish Prakash (1998), the Arya Veer Dal was first established on 21st. January 1929, in New Delhi, India. One of the main purposes of the establishment of the Veer Dal was to assist in the all round development of the individual. This also includes character molding and a well disciplined mind.
After setting firm grounds throughout India this youth movement was then extended to the Caribbean wherever there were Arya Samaajists. It was introduced first to Guyana and then to Trinidad. Its introduction to Trinidad was made possible after a group of young initiates to Arya Samaaj attended the Veer Dal Camp in Guyana. On their return they organized a retreat on Nelson Island with the aim of establishing the Veer Dal in Trinidad. The first Veer Dal Camp in Trinidad was held at Avocat. This was a unique event. There were separate camps for both Veer (male) and Veeranganers (girls).
With the growth in numbers and with the aim of reaching out to the youths, shakhas (branches) were established throughout the country. There was also a close link between the Veers and Veeranganers of Trinidad and Guyana. At each shakha ongoing activities, both religious and secular were conducted. Meetings were held regularly, at both levels. At the national level the Varg (Group) Leaders met on a quarterly basis to give feedback on the groups activities and to receive update on further developments. All of these culminated in the Annual Shikshan Shivir (Training Camp). At present attempts are being made to revive the Veer Dal at the national level.
